Wizkid Pledges ₦100 million to Children in Need
Nigerian superstar Wizkid announced on Monday, 11 December, that he will be giving away ₦100 million to impoverished children in honour of his late mother, Juliana Morayo Balogun.
“₦100M for the kids for Christmas! God bless us all, [it] starts in Surulere tonight,” the 33-year-old singer – who is privately known as Ayodeji Balogun – said via his Instagram story. He later added: “All in Morayo’s name, the love of my life.”
Juliana – who was an avid supporter of her son – passed away earlier this year, on 18 August. At the moment, the details surrounding her death have not been made public.
Wizkid’s choice to support the youth of Surulere, Lagos is a somewhat personal decision as he reportedly lived in the area during his formative years.
The festive season seems to have put the rapper into a charitable mood, as he also gave away ₦20 million to a man named Money Gee, who dedicated a song called “Italawa Big Wizzy” to him.
However, Wizkid isn’t the only Nigerian who is looking to give back to his community at the moment. Mavin Records boss, Don Jazzy, has reportedly generously donated millions of naira to people in need, including a student who was struggling with school fees and others who needed help with their medical expenses.
